She qualified at The University of Manchester in 2001 and has since developed her skills working in both musculoskeletal and orthopaedic areas. Types of Treatment

Physiotherapists adopt a variety of techniques to reduce pain and improve function. The most common are detailed below:

• Exercise - where appropriate, an individually designed home exercise programme will be taught to restore muscle strength and range of movement. During your treatment sessions, it may be appropriate to use the gymnasium facilities, with state of-the art cardiovascular equipment and over 50 different pieces of resistance equipment.

• Mobilisations - these are movements produced by the patient or physiotherapist to increase movement in joints to reduce pain.

• Electrotherapy - this is a pain-free treatment designed to relieve symptoms and promote soft tissue healing.

• Massage - helps to loosen tight muscles and other soft tissues, increases blood circulation, reduces tension and provides pain relief. Massage is also very beneficial for relaxation and reducing stress.

• Acupuncture - following the ancient Chinese art to reduce pain and aid sympton relief via the use of strategically placed acupuncture needles.

• Pilates - excellent for retraining muscle strength around the body’s central core, optimising muscle balance and injury rehabilitation.

• Hydrotherapy - the warm temperature of the water allows your muscles to relax and eases pain in your joints. The water also supports your weight and therefore makes it easier to exercise. This helps to increase the range of movement in your joints, and by using the resistance of the water, it can help improve muscle strength.
